The next step in drawing using the exercises I’m following Was to take a step from the cartoon style I’ve been using to practice techniques and make the step up to drawing something more realistic.

This was when my anxieties about drawing crept in again.
Ive been doing really well so far and I was suddenly scared to try something more advanced in case I screwed it up.
The task was to draw a real koala!
Since I didn’t have one to hand I googled for a picture. When I saw what was in store i got more anxious.
”It’s going to be shit and all my confidence I’ve built up will be destroyed!” I thought. But I calmed myself down took a few breaths and studied the picture, working out the shapes, where the shadows were and thinking about how I was going to go about it.
I drew the outline.

So far, so good.
Then an I decided to draw the eyes and nose.

Confidence building but still trepidatious about starting to shade.
I took a few more deep breaths to calm myself down and gee myself up.
”Slowly, gently,” I said and then started.
Heres how it happened...

I’ll finish it later. But confidence back to sky-high again!
