Day 250: Branching out into limbs...

So I practiced heads for several million years and got reasonably confident with them (reasonable confident meaning I still need a few more million years but I’ve made huge improvements).

Its now been all about arms and legs - mostly arms. Again I've made leaps and bounds in understanding where everything is.

Just like the heads exercise everyone seems to have their own systems for finding the proportions before they start details them. I found just drawing the basic shapes below to block in the shoulder, upper arm, elbow area and forearm helped me.

As you can see even drawing the basic shapes I'm

tempted to start drawing in the form of the forearm.

Once you’ve worked out the positioning of the arm and it’s proportion you can draw In the outline .

Once the outline is there you can detail it. Some examples below.

As you can see still a lot of practice to be had but getting better every time I draw one.

Legs are a wee bit more complex so after I’d attempted a tutorial to draw the below I thought I’d leave them be until I’d got a better handle on the arms.

You’ll notice I’m constantly drawing things in the background as I go. It’s all part of the fun!

More soon
